The event took place on, Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

Thank you BET, thank you, everyone,” Tems said as she received the award on behalf of Wizkid. “This award is for Wizkid, and I just want to say that a great thing is happening from Africa right now. The light is on everyone there. This is dedicated to Africa and Nigeria.

Tems however returned onstage to receive the Best International Act Award fending off competition from fellow Nigerian act Fireboy DML, Major League DJz (South Africa), Fally Ipupa (DRC), Dave (UK), Dinos (France), Ludmilla (Brazil) and Tayc (France).

In her acceptance speech, the sensational songstress said; “Where I’m from in Lagos, this is a dream…As you’re watching me, imagine yourself as me, you are meant to be here, too.

This new BET Award win for WizKid makes him currently the African musician with the most wins at the BET Awards. At the moment, WizKid has 4 BET Awards to his name.
