Spotify’s Offering a Free 3-Month Trial For New Users till June

Streaming giant Spotify is offering two new deals, starting 14th May 2020 to get more people to subscribe to its premium subscription service.

New users get a 3-month free trial if they sign up from now through June 30th, and the deal applies to any premium plans including family, student, and individual. Meanwhile, people who once were individual premium members, but canceled their plan before April 14th, can sign up again for $9.99 for three months, bringing the cost of a subscription to a little over $3.00 per month. You can access these deals here.

These offers show how Spotify plans to continue generating subscription income during the COVID-19 outbreak. Its main source of income over the years has been from advertising, which has been drastically affected across industries due to the global economic downturn.

In Spotify’s very recent earnings report, it was revealed that its ad-supported revenues fell short of its forecast, and it lowered its revenue guidance for the year as a result. It also revealed that a large number of users canceled their accounts citing COVID-19 as a reason and plan to renew their subscriptions once they are back on their feet financially. Spotify offering a 3-month free trial and cheaper subscription costs might convince people to either sign up and renew their subscriptions.
