The New Era Sessions: Rouge Album Review

Rouge The New Era Sessions

Deko Barbara-Jessica Wedi, professionally known as ‘Rouge‘ recently released her debut album ‘The New Era Sessions’ consisting of four chapters where she raps about women empowerment, relationships,  the struggles of her journey to being taken seriously as an artist and exploitation in the industry.

This was highlighted in a short film she released on October 3rd 2017 in which we’re taken through a series of therapy sessions where Rouge unwinds her feelings to her psychologist.

The ironic thing is that the person she was talking to ended being an opportunist who used her stories to write a book based on her experience and did not bother to credit her at all.

The film is a message to up and coming artists, that they should watch who they trust and share their problems with.

Women in Hip Hop have been going through the most in terms of not getting recognition and not being taken seriously. It has been a serious fight of being judged on your talent and not the way you dress or looks.

Rouge also became the first SA Hip Hop Female artist to trend in the top 10 on iTunes. This happened on release day which followed with the release of hard copies a few weeks after. The album has been doing well. It just made it into the top 20 of the Musica charts in just one week.

Go get yourself a hard copy at any musica store and live through Rouge’s career so far or you can buy it on iTunes.
