Marvy Releases ‘Ji Masun’, an Afro-Trap Anthem!

Marvy ji masun

Budding Nigerian Musician, Marvy is out with New single titled ‘Ji Masun‘, an Afro-Trap wakeup call.

On ‘Ji Masun‘, a phrase in Yoruba which means “Wake Up; Don’t Sleep“, Marvy is seen doing some real self-examination. She touches on issues like pressures from her father to get a “real” job, her Mother being one of her few sources of motivation while questioning her true purpose as an artist. She does this with a blend of Yoruba, Pidgin and English language.

With phrases like “It’s not about the Quotes on Twitter!!“, It is quite obvious Marvy is not into music for the clout. Young Artists these days feel the need to have all that the accomplished artists have and they want it now! They feel the need to fulfill this need by doing the most- buying Followers and Engagement from Social Media Agencies instead of growing a strong fanbase with what matters the most- THE MUSIC!

We also see self-doubt with lyrics like “My lover said this music bi nice but I don’t believe“. This could cause a bit of a contradiction to the main topic but it is understood when she mentions that she is her own nemesis.

Ji Masun exalts the importance of putting in the hard work to achieve results. In a time where internet fraud is a thing and the average Nigerian youth wants to have a lifestyle without putting in work, Marvy is preaching! This is not your everyday song about women, liquor or drugs.
