Diasporan Ghanaians Connected Through Music at the ‘It’s About Time’ Concert

Sarkodie - It's About Time Concert Ghanaian

The first ‘It’s About Time’ concert was a great way for Ghanaians and Africans in the Diaspora to reconnect through music.

Early this year, Ghanaian rap icon, Sarkodie and Ghanaian hip-hop and hiplife duo R2Bees, made up of Omar Sterling and Mugeez, both tweeted saying one thing — ‘It’s About Time‘. The initial reaction by many people was that they were about to release a joint musical project but later, it was made clear that ‘It’s About Time‘ was the name of a concert the two would be headlining later in the year.

This past weekend, July 30, 2022, was the day of the event and it took place at the Palladium Times Square in New York, United States.

Gyakie - It's About Time concert

Organized by Nayasa Entertainment, the 2,100-capacity Palladium Times Square was packed to the rafters. This happens to be the first time the Tema-based superstars have collaborated to headline a show outside of Ghana.

The show had memorable guest performances from fellow Ghanaian musicians like Herman Suede, Camidoh, King Promise, MzVee, Gyakie, Kelvyn Boy, Darkovibes, Kwesi Arthur and Efya.

Sarkodie and R2Bees entertained the audience and gave them a nostalgic feeling with the performance of their classic collaborations like ‘Bayla Trap’, ‘Ajei’, ‘One Shot’, ‘Baby’, and many more.
