Dreamville leader, J Cole drops his first single of the year ‘MIDDLE CHILD’ to kick start his 2019 on a generational note gearing up for his ‘The Off Season’ album.
In this latest song, Cole talks about being the ‘middle’ child between two generations of different sounds to Hip Hop and how he has accepted the fact that he has to adapt to the new mannerisms and ‘requirements’ to stay relevant in this new age without losing the essence of what makes him fit in with the older generation.
“Too many niggas in cycle of jail
Spending they birthdays inside of a cell
We coming from a long bloodline of trauma.”
He also admitted that he will not diss another young rapper for clout, or to ride a wave and that it will be legit.
Touching on how he’s met up with Kodak, worked with 21 and had lunch with Jigga, Cole also spoke about his strong relationship with Drake and how he’d never pull clout stunts because his merchandise ain’t selling the same.
It’s clear that he is definitely taking shots at Kanye on this one.
Shout out to T-Minus also on production.
