Davina Oriakhi’s New Release is a Sweet Sonic Plea for Consciousness.

Davina Oriakhi’s New Release is a Sweet Sonic Plea for Consciousness.

British Nigerian Singer-Songwriter, Davina Oriakhi releases new single along with a lyric visual titled, “Hosea 4v6”, produced by Lex Amor and Davina Oriakhi.

Davina’s first hand in production is her first release since her April 2017 duet “Vanity” with Soul artiste, Preyé.

Davina Oriakhi releases “Hosea 4v6”, following her last music video “JUJU” (January 2019), we see Davina Oriakhi embody her musical fluidity in the very enchanting video earlier this month.

On her new record “Hosea 4v6”, the singer is just as enthralling and melodious, carrying a message; on African suppression and freedom.

Inspired by her personal journey into what she refers to as “Hidden African History”; her new release is a direct product of her research and consumption of related information around the subject from the British Library, as generally African history hasn’t always been accessible or taught to the artist.

On the song, Davina uses the Bible verse referenced in the title; “Hosea 4v6” as an outro-chorus; attributing the African struggle to lack of information/knowledge.
“I feel our people don’t do better because they don’t know better, or they choose to block out information; or at least that’s one of the many problems”, Davina states reflecting on the Hosea 4v6.

Connecting with British Artist and producer, Lex Amor to produce the record, Davina reveals the session was enigmatic for her, she recalls writing at length the words as they came to her; and as unstructured as the lyrics seemed in that moment, it captures and expresses her thoughts from her readings on the African Journey so far.

Hosea 4v6 is released alongside a lyric video; The listen is vibrational and inspiring, a sweet sonic plea for consciousness. The video is a captivating lyric visual showing Davina performing each line of the song in Afro Jazz-esque dance movement. Shot, edited and co-directed by Samara Addai, Davina attempts to draw the listener into the lyrics of the song through mesmerizing movement.

Davina Oriakhi is a British- Nigerian singer/songwriter with a goal to uplift through her music, creating music that inspires depth, introspection and most times appreciation of her ability to impress with her writing skills, consciousness, and sonic delivery. Davina Oriakhi tells us to expect her “evolution” in 2019 with more music.
